Two Weeks in Utah: Ski, Stay, Then Go Beyond the Slopes

Utah is one of the few snow destinations where a single trip can feel like two completely different holidays.

For the 2026/27 winter season, it is not just about choosing the right resort. It is about planning the journey properly.

With short transfer times, world-class skiing and the ability to continue south into some of the most striking landscapes in the U.S., Utah lends itself perfectly to a two-week itinerary that builds as you go.

This is how we recommend doing it.

Days 1–2: Arrive in Salt Lake City

After the long-haul journey, begin with a night in Salt Lake City.

The airport sits just 15 minutes from downtown, making arrival seamless. This first night is about resetting into the time zone, but if time allows, there is plenty to ease you into the trip. Catch an NBA game, explore the city’s growing craft brewery scene or visit one of its well-curated museums.

By the next morning, you are rested and ready to head into the mountains.

Days 3–6: Park City (40 minutes from Salt Lake City)

From Salt Lake City, it is an easy 40-minute drive (approximately 55km) into Park City.

This is the ideal first base. The mountain is expansive, offering over 7,300 acres of terrain for skiers and snowboarders, while the town itself brings a level of energy that is rare in U.S. ski destinations.

Historic Main Street is where Park City comes alive. Evenings here are just as memorable as the ski day, with a strong mix of restaurants, bars and boutiques.

Where to Stay in Park City

For accommodation, we typically recommend:

Pendry Park City – contemporary, social and well located with strong dining and après

Hotel Park City (Autograph Collection) – a quieter, boutique-style stay with generous room sizes

The Caledonian – ideal for those wanting to stay right on Main Street

YOTELPAD Park City – a smart, modern option offering compact, design-led spaces that work particularly well for families and groups

Park City Peaks Hotel – a well-priced, comfortable option with a relaxed atmosphere and good access to the mountain

Sundial Lodge – a strong slopeside choice in Canyons Village with easy lift access and a range of room configurations

Stein Eriksen Residences – excellent for families wanting space and amenities

Days here tend to fall into an easy rhythm. Skiing wide-open terrain, long lunches on the mountain and evenings in town.

For dining, our team consistently recommends Firewood for a more elevated experience, High West Distillery for something distinctly local, and Yuki Yama for one of the best sushi spots in town.

Days 7–9: Deer Valley & Heber Valley (10–15 minutes from Park City)

From Park City, it is just a 10 to 15-minute drive into Deer Valley, but the shift in experience is immediate.

This is where Utah’s luxury offering comes into focus. The skiing is beautifully groomed, the service is seamless and the pace of the day feels more refined.

For 26/27, Deer Valley is one of the most exciting stories in North American skiing. The ongoing expansion includes new terrain, lifts and the development of the Deer Valley East Village, introducing a new arrival point, expanded ski school facilities and a growing collection of luxury accommodation.

A key addition here is the Grand Hyatt Deer Valley, with further premium properties in the pipeline, including a future Four Seasons. This next phase will continue to elevate Deer Valley’s position as one of the leading luxury ski destinations in the United States.

Where to Stay in Deer Valley

The St. Regis Deer Valley – elevated, polished and home to one of the best après terraces in Utah

Montage Deer Valley – ideal for families, with space, facilities and a full resort feel

Stein Eriksen Lodge – a long-standing favourite with classic alpine style and ski-in ski-out access

Dining here is a highlight and worth planning around.

Lunch at Royal Street Café is one of those moments where you slow down and take it all in, while Fireside Dining offers a memorable alpine-style evening. For something more traditional, Goldener Hirsch Restaurant brings a European alpine feel that suits the setting perfectly.

A Day in Heber Valley (10 minutes from Deer Valley)

From Deer Valley’s new East Village, it is less than 10 minutes’ drive to Heber Valley, and this is where the trip takes a different turn.

Start at the Homestead Crater, a geothermal spring hidden inside a limestone dome, where you can soak or swim in warm mineral water.

From there, take to the skies with a hot air balloon flight over the valley, drifting above snow-covered landscapes with views back toward the Wasatch.

In the evening, one of the most memorable experiences is a yurt dinner at Soldier Hollow, reached by snowshoe through the forest.

This is the part of the trip that feels unexpected, and often becomes a highlight.

Days 10–11: Alta & Snowbird (45 minutes from Deer Valley)

For the final ski days, head into Little Cottonwood Canyon, 1.5 hour drive from Deer Valley, via Salt Lake City.

This is where Utah’s skiing becomes more raw and authentic.

Alta and Snowbird are about the mountain first. Snow quality, terrain and tradition define the experience here.

One of our team’s favourite stays is Snowpine Lodge in Alta. It offers true ski-in ski-out access, a warm alpine atmosphere and a strong connection to the heritage of the mountain.

Days 12–14: Southern Utah (4–5 hour drive)

Then, just as the trip feels complete, Utah offers something entirely different.

From Salt Lake City, it is approximately a 4.5-hour drive (around 430km) to Zion National Park,

The landscape changes dramatically. Snow-covered peaks give way to red rock canyons, open skies and a slower pace.

Spend a few days exploring Zion or Bryce Canyon, where winter brings fewer crowds and a striking contrast of snow against desert terrain.

It is an unexpected final chapter, and one that elevates the entire trip.
